1. 10 September, Makset Djabbarbergenov, a Protestant Pastor living in Kazakhstan after fleeing religious persecution back in 2007, is reportedly facing deportation following his arrest by Kazakh authorities.

On September 7, 2012, a court ordered that Pastor Djabbarbergenov be held in detention until Kazakhstan’s General Prosecutor’s Office decides whether to deport him back to Uzbekistan.

It is also reported that the Kazakh government has deported some of Pastor Djabbarbergenov’s Christian Uzbek friends back to Uzbekistan.

The pastor is wanted by the Uzbek government and could face up to 9 years imprisonment if he is extradited to Uzbekistan. Pastor Djabbarbergenov and his family are now seeking resettlement in the U.S.
