Bishop and pastor accused of blasphemy

A bishop and church pastor in Lahore have been forced into hiding after being accused of blasphemy. Bishop Pervaiz Joseph is leader of the Pastors Care Ministries and pastor of a charismatic gospel church in Lahore, while Pastor Baber George works with the Full Gospel Assemblies Church Pakistan, the oldest Pentecostal church in Pakistan.
According to Global Christian Voice, they were accused of blasphemy after raising the issue of the misuse of the blasphemy law in a meeting with Muslim leaders Rana Tahir Advocate, Nasreen Akhtar Advocate, Mohammad Sher Afghan and Moulana Mukhtar Ahmad Qadri.

The Muslim leaders claim that Bishop Joseph made derogatory remarks against the Prophet Muhammad during discussions. According to Global Christian Voice, Bishop Joseph and Pastor George have left their homes and are living temporarily in a safe place with their families.

Global Christian Voice said Bishop Joseph and Pastor George did not make any derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. The meeting was held as part of Bishop Joseph and Pastor George’s interfaith work to build peace and harmony between Christians and Muslims.

The Muslim leaders are reportedly angry over a new organisation set up Bishop Joseph and Pastor George to promote Christian rights and peace. They reportedly accused the Christians of trying to evangelise through their interfaith work, and want to kill them.

Please pray for the restoration of peaceful relations between Christians and Muslims in Lahore, and that Bishop Joseph and Pastor George will be able to resume their work safely once again.
